Additional Curriculum
The Aultman Family Medicine curriculum is based on the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Core Educational Guidelines for Family Medicine Residents, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program requirements, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Postdoctoral Training requirements and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) Basic Standards.
All residents and faculty have input into the curriculum, which will provide the skills and training needed for family physicians of the future.
Longitudinal Experiences
Optional experience for PGY/OGME-2 and 3 residents
Spend one half day each week at physician's office/location of resident's choosing
Residents have the option of working in our rural office in Waynesburg
Balint Group
Focus is on the interpersonal and emotional components involved in the practice of medicine
Builds communication and relationship skills with patients and their families, other residents, faculty and staff
Held once a month with the behavioral scientist and one outside attending
Practice Management
2 week rotation to prepare residents to organize their own practices
Provides background in managed care organizations, risk management, marketing, contracts, malpractice insurance and financial planning
Conferences are also held throughout the three years
Conferences
Scheduled daily on topics relevant to Family Medicine
Faculty and residents are involved in selecting both topics and speakers
Include didactics, case presentations and group discussions.
